Thirsty Thursday: "Aftuuhh 500 years we're still fweends!"

Don't feel badly if you don't understand the title.
You shouldn't unless you're one of the Fab 5.

Last night at 10pm I was casually lounging in my bed (the tree house) watching Grey's Anatomy. I had given up on the notion that I would get work done but I was absolutely certain that I wasn't going out. I was successfully ignoring the warm weather, the dance music blasting outside, and Allie dancing around singing "Who Dat Girl" and "P.Y.T." (the Glee version, good god). Next thing I know a certain loud-mouthed Ecuadorian Italian brunette comes bounding into my house and declares that she will be getting in bed with me, "Move over, I'm coming up" (if you don't know, my bed is called the tree house because it is lofted up and over my entire room). Jackie, the loud-mouthed Ecuadorian Italian brunette, and I consulted Allie on her outfit, played some game on her iPhone with pigs and birds or something (who knows), but mainly just giggled for a half an hour. "You are easily one of the most, if not the most, entertaining person I've ever met in my life," I told her. Jackie doesn't even have to try to make me laugh, it just happens naturally. Of course she is hilarious but she's entertaining in the way that she doesn't even have to try. Simply the way she talks and functions as a human being is hilarious and I adore it.

Eventually Jackshmack and Allie go downstairs and I can hear them having a dance party in my kitchen. I'm still resisting until I hear Meghan come home. Well now I gotta go downstairs and at least see what's happening, right? Bad idea. The moral of the story is that Meghan, who was also not going out, and I get peer pressured into changing our clothes and going out. By 10:45 I'm dressed and ready with a glass of wine. Allie put *Nsync's "It's Tearin' Up My Heart" on the iPod and we were off, "It's a wonder we're all single...." (Jackie sarcastically pointed out as we bopped around the kitchen doing dance moves such as "the Q-Tip"). It reminded me a lot of being in high school....but with booze and better shoes. We made a good group and it felt fun and loose, oMigOsh jUSt hAvinN' fUn wiTh mY gUrLs. I asked them as we walked four across and occasionally arm-in-arm down to the bar if we were Sex & the City who would each of us be. I immediately wanted to be Carrie but realized that in this group, Jackie is Carrie. Allie is definitely Charlotte, Meghan (the level-headed one of the bunch) is Miranda and well, that leaves me as Samantha.....hmmm....I'll just leave it at that.

Throw back :-)

I ended up being very happy that I went out. The weather was fantastic and I didn't even need to drink all that much because we were holding down the dance floor. These three girls are three of the best friends that I have in this city so the combination of us all together was fun with or without the alcohol. No hang over for me today :-)

So in the spirit of feeling like a kid, yesterday I heard a little boy outside the elementary school across the street from my house say to his friend (in all seriousness), "Uh huh, I wanna be Super Man." It was preshhhious. I started to wonder what super power I would want to have if I could choose anything. I initially narrowed it down to flying, mind reading, and invisibility. Of course there are times when I'd love to know what is on someone's mind, hell I wish we could Google what someone is thinking, I mean we can Google everything else! I also thought about the amount of times I think to myself, "Wow, I'd love to be a fly on the wall for that conversation" hence the invisibility thing. However, after much thought and consideration I have concluded that I completely agree with the little chubby cheeks kid, I would want the ability to fly. Reading minds and being invisible would be helpful in a lot of situations but that's messing around with fate. I know better than to toy with the f-word.

I have a feeling that I would get greedy and want to know too much. Although I'm also pretty certain that I really wouldn't want to be privy to the dark and twisted thoughts, I have enough of those on my own thank you! And finally, then there would be 0.0 fun in getting to know someone.

Now flying, on the other hand, would be AWESOME. Of course since this is my super power, I would make it that flying burns 10 times as many calories as working out. That way I could fly around all the time and be skinny and in shape for my entire life. Naturally. Think of the possibilities though - I'd rarely ever be late because it's not like I can get stuck in traffic, I could see the world at little cost because it's not like I'd have to buy plane tickets, and I'd get the top down, wind in my face, hair flowing in the breeze feeling ALL THE TIME. Yup, it's decided, my super power would be to fly.

"Louder Than Words" by David Guetta ft. Afrojack

So fly away into the weekend my chick-a-dees! Catch ya on the flip side.

I'm sorry but I just couldn't resist one more....

Thirsty Thursday: I am woman! I am invincible! I am pooped!

I wasn't planning on a new post today until I found this.
(On the Internet, not in my pocket, I promise).

Like it's that easy, right?

Luckily, I have good people and good things in my life that make it a little bit easier than it might be for a lot of others. You can probably guess what the picture is in reference to so I'm not even going to embarrass myself by typing it out. If you don't, please see "Weekend Warrior: Clear Eyes, Full Hearts, Can't Lose".

So number 1 on the to do list says to "move on." I think to really move on, you have to know what it is exactly that you're moving on from. It's a waste of time to think you're moving on from a situation that you never really understood your commitment to in the first place. Before I can move on from anything, I have to figure out what are the parts of the relationship or the environment that are no longer working for me.

Today, I'm not just moving on from one guy in particular, I'm moving on from the lot of ya (for a hot second, at least). I wish you could hear the voice in my head that just said that because it's very calm and content, not at all man-hating and feisty. I've been through an entire line-up of batters, nine guys to be exact (geez ok, so it's like 5% man-hating and feisty but 95% calm and content) and it's time to move on for a little bit.

Analysis: A) I am moving on from the exhaustion that comes with putting yourself out there and meeting someone new. Do you know how many times I've showered, blow dried my hair, put on make-up, and dressed up for these dates? Sweet lord, that's enough to make ya move on in itself! B) I'm moving on from the disappointment of nine unsuccessful attempts at mutually connecting with someone. Don't get me wrong, I learned something about myself and what I seek in a partner through all of these attempts and I have no regrets (yup, I learned that last week - Go me, I'm a "have no regrets" kinda chick!) but a break is in order. And C) I'm moving on from the overwhelming feeling that this "man hunt" has taken over my life. I am a second semester senior with a thesis to write, a summer to plan, vodka to drink, and a few weeks left to enjoy beer pong with my friends, running in Georgetown, and a city that has loved on me for four fantastic years.

Number 2 on that to do list says to "laugh". Yeah, like that's hard for me to do. All Sammy has to do is look at me and we crack up. Fortunately, I got started with the laughing part last night. Any night spent at Rhino with Brittany, Oscar, and JC can change my entire mood. I swear, I don't know what it is about that place but I can walk in there in the worst mood and within minutes I'm a changed woman.

I've been thinking that I want to get back to the place I was in during the fall and that place would be ri-goddamn-diculously happy (Refer back to the post, "Weekend Warrior: We are not normal"). That starts today and last night was a great way to kick it off. I haven't worked all together with that crew since the fall so the rare opportunity was warmly welcomed. How about next year when I'm having a bad day, I'll fly, drive, or run over to Rhino, work a shift with those 3 characters, and then go back to real life? Perfect.

Number 3 on the list says to "repeat #2" which I am on my way to doing. I have a wonderful Friday night planned with my Meghan. We are having a caf date for dinner and then going home to get ready for a Johnnie Walker private taste testing event at the Andrew W. Mellon Auditorium, called The House of Walker Experience. I have no idea what to expect, all I know is that I'll be with Meghan (who has been annoyingly busy with school work recently, so a catch up session is in serious order), there will be Johnnie Walker, and we'll be all kinds of classy at the venue.

I'm going to add a few other things to the to do list today:

4) Keep listening to "Young Blood" by The Naked and Famous

5) Make my own  "Barbara Streisand Song". Ya know the techno song?
Try it out, it's fun.

6. Watch THIS.

7. Repeat #6

and finally for #8, I wish to satisfy the 5% of me
that is man-hating and feisty by sending a message out to
all you butt head dudes who have done me wrong:

"The best revenge of all: happiness. Nothing drives
people crazier than seeing someone have a good effing life"
- Chuck Palahniuk

Thirsty Thursday: Would You Like Potomac or Bottled Water?

So I went out with #8 on Thursday night, or as I will be calling him, "Magic 8 Ball." I had very high expectations of this one because he seemed really put together, interesting, sophisticated, well traveled, and very attractive. Within an hour of being around him I could confirm that yes, he is all of those things...YAY.

Let's start at the beginning, shall we? First, he picks me up at the house. He actually gets out of the car and waits at the door (it's a sad world we live in when small and appreciated gestures like this are unexpected). We went to Hudson for dinner. Hudson is a restaurant in DC that I frequently run by and always make a mental note that I want to go there but have yet to do so. It is a lounge type bar and restaurant, with a contemporary and hip decor that just makes you feel like you're having a faaabulous time with faaabulous people, dahlin'!

Magic 8 Ball is a gentleman. From the minute we sat down he made sure I was comfortable and happy. Since I am the most indecisive person when it comes to wine and food, he took over. The food was really good, except we were talking so much that we had barely touched the appetizer by the time the entree arrived. Even the entree sat there hanging out for awhile before we could get around to eating it. I was talking a lot (and I know this probably doesn't come as a shock to you guys) but the combination of his calm and engaging demeanor and the Red Bull I had earlier...well, it was a bit of word vomit on my end. However, he didn't seem to mind at all. He asked questions and contributed stories of his own. When I stepped away from the table, he asked the server to do a surprise dessert with candles and a port (a dessert wine...it's fine, I didn't know what it was either), in honor of my birthday that we never got to celebrate. Go ahead, "awww", I did too!

We decided to go check out what was going on at the waterfront bars since it was such a nice night. By the time we got there, the bars were closing and we found ourselves walking by the water. "I'm gonna put this out there; if you like it, you can take it, if you don't, send it right back...I want to be on you take a dip in the Potomac." He threw it out there, just like that, and I wasn't sure if he was kidding or not until he said, "There's your spot, Christie." Don't even ask me where. The location is going with me to grave because it really is the perfect spot to.....JUMP IN THE POTOMAC?! Goodness. Little Louis and I were freaking out. He was totally and completely serious. He went to his car and comes back with towels and flip flops for me to wear, "I was just in California for a few weeks; we always keep this stuff in the car." Hokay, so umm, what? Oh I was scared. Wtf is in the Potomac, it's cold, I'm with a relative stranger, it's gotta be illegal, and there's no way in hell I'm getting in that water...

I got in the water.

We crossed over a little stream of water, via a wooden board, because forget about the pedestrian bridge...that's for amateurs. We got to the sandy bank and walked out into the water until it was just above our knees. Faaa-reeee-ziiiing but hello was I proud of myself! (Louis was proud of me too). It was awesome and if you know me, you know that I tend to make some bold moves, do some out there stuff, but not usually things that involve limited clothing...in public...in the water...in February. I was waiting for the one of the many cops I know in Georgetown to come down there and shine his lights on us....wouldn't that have been a real treat! We didn't stay out there for too long, maybe because we couldn't feel our toes, but what a rush!

Before continuing on to the next place, since we never got that drink, he asked if it would be okay for us to make a pit stop so he could let his dogs out. No, this was not code for funny business, we actually let his dog and the two dogs he was watching for a few days, out in the yard. By the time we were done, Town Hall had already closed up so we went to the place across the street called Breadsoda. This place is awesome and neither of us knew it even existed. It's low key and casual but more underground trendy. I noticed that he loosened up a bit and was more playful and flirty. However, he still hadn't kissed me despite the endless amount of opportunities throughout the night. I couldn't figure it out. Was he not attracted to me? Was he feeling like I am too young for him? Is he just that polite? Maybe it's not his style? So about me being an over-analyzer...yeah, about that...

So the time came to bring me home and when we parked out front of the house we saw a lot of activity going on. Girls were coming out of my house, guys were walking into the house, so I invited him in to check out what was going on. Earlier in the night, I mentioned the "tree house," what we girls in the house call my room, so he asked me to take him up to see it. He made his move and we kissed. Great kiss. Unfortunately, I turned into the 22 year old whack-a-doo that I usually pride myself on NOT being.

Can open...worms everywhere...

Of course I assumed the worst. It made me uncomfortable that he waited until we were in my house to make a move and I started to feel like I was being played. Magic 8 Ball said he just wanted me to feel comfortable and that he was not about doing the expected. Any other guy would've kissed me when we were knee deep in the Potomac but he didn't. I had a really hard time feeling secure, despite all of the fantastic events of the evening because my brain went to "wow, is he really just here for a hook up?" Then I thought, "Am I being crazy?" Ugh. I'm fed so much BS from guys all the g.d. time that I don't even believe someone when he could be telling the truth. I also liked him and since that is a feeling I haven't experienced in a long time, I didn't want to do anything to make him think of me as a stupid 22 year old college girl. Well, great job Chris, you managed to do exactly that by flipping the eff out! Is it too late to be a man? Just askin'...

Lorelai: This is the beginning of a relationship; you're supposed to act stupid.
Luke: I'll do the chicken dance on my lunch break.

We finally moved away from the serious talk and thankfully, Magic 8 Ball is quite the comedian. He broke up the awkwardness with a few funny one liners and sarcastic remarks. We parted on a good note, "Hey so when you blog about tonight, can I suggest some nicknames for myself?" He rattled off a few names like Brad Pitt or Johnny Depp but I told him the nickname always depends on how I'm feeling about you in that moment.

Origin of Nickname: He was date #8, the night was magical, and as
of now, where it goes from here is up in the air. Shake it up!
"Signs point to yes" or "Better not tell you now" or "Very doubt."
Time will tell.

M8B: "Would you like a ride to the train station tomorrow?"
Me: "I'd love one!"
M8B: "Ok so what you do is, walk to Wisconsin Avenue, put your thumb up, and someone will pick you up."

Friday morning he arrived at the house to take me to Union Station. Heyyyrrroooo, he looked so friggen cute! I know I like him because I was doing my nervous bit where I talk and move around a lot, make it look like I'm busy, and think my roommates are extra funny. I hope it wasn't too obvious (wishful thinking!) I intended to avoid the crazy part of the night before and just be happy and normal. I felt kind of silly about the way I reacted and I didn't want him to put me on his loony toon list. In the car, we made small talk about Kombucha tea, which is delicious by the way, but then he asked me about the previous night. He was rightfully questioning whether or not I had a good time based on my emo moment. I let him know I had an amazing time and I'm pretty positive he believed me.

jshfiuaehrtuwaeytaiwlhfkajlsdfhauietwaqr

Sorry, just had to let that out. We were in touch on Saturday afternoon and everything was completely fun and happy. Why am I such a twinkie sometimes? I'm not happy when the date is a dud and when it's a great date, I over-think it because I like him and end up feeling like an idiot. I chose to write "feeling like an idiot" instead of "looking like an idiot" because now that I've had a few days to sit on it, I really don't think he caught on to how crazy I felt. I guess I managed to keep most of it up in my head and only mildly acted like a whack-a-do. Does that make sense? Anyway, he's got real Jeter potential and here I am acting like a AAA player. Looks like the tables have turned and now I'm the one who needs to step up her game!

Thirsty Thursday: Womp Womp

"It's not the men in your life that count, it's the life in your men!" ~ Mae West

Last night I met Lucky Lacking Life #7. I don't even know what he did, whether it was a bunt or little dribble to the pitcher but feh! it's not even worth the metaphor. He was a nice guy for sure but ya know when someone is talking and you're looking at him and you think you're listening but somewhere along the line you realize you have no idea what he just said even though you've been nodding and "uh huh-ing" throughout the whole story? I DO I DO! There was no oomph, no spark, no wow factor. The highlight / low point (yes, it was both) was running into Scott and Simon, two of the PSU regulars from Rhino. It was the highlight because I actually got excited, "AHHH wtf are YOU doing here?" but also the low point because all I wanted to do was ditch #7 and hang out with them! It emphasized how utterly bored I was with Mr. Womp Womp.

On a more positive note, I love Clarendon! It's a combination of Georgetown and Chatham, NJ in that small town way but with a lot of action. It reminds me a lot of Bethesda too. Anyway, we went to Whitlow's on Wilson, a casual sports bar with live music and a yuppy, young professionals crowd. Just two stops into Virginia from Rosslyn, this is going to be my new little escape from the Georgetown bubble. And let me tell you, it was raining men in there! I kept looking around at all of the other guys I wanted to be talking to instead of the kinda geeky and mellow #7. It was awkward at times too because for some reason most people around us were DRUNK, like really drunk, and men were hitting on me right in front of him! If that doesn't prove that there was no visible chemistry than I don't know what does! These guys either felt like they needed to save me from a boring stranger, were too drunk to notice him, or just simply didn't care. Either way, of course I was polite and ignored them but ughhhh I didn't want to ignore them! I got home to the house and told the girls that we have to go back, preferably for a big game of some kind.

I did, however, get this really cool mug that
when I go back there, I get refills for $2! Love it.

It's amazing to me that two people can be on the same date and walk away from it feeling completely differently. After the first drink I knew I was done and no longer interested. When he ordered another round, I thought "Ok that's fine...either he still thinks he's interested and hasn't figured out as quickly as I have that we have no va va voom or he's being polite because he doesn't know that I've already figured it out". By the next round, I was sure we were going to call it a night but he kept going! I didn't get it. Everyone around us could see it was blahh but why couldn't he?! I pulled the plug on another drink by saying that I didn't want to be on the metro too late and that I had a busy day today. He walked me to the metro, rode it for one stop with me, and said a few times "I had a really great time with you and I'd like to see you again."  ....WHAT?@!*&%%$? I'm sorry but #7, were you on the same date as I was?! There's no way.

How do you let him down when he's done nothing wrong? At that point, I'd rather a guy do something rude or ridiculous so that I don't have to feel like a butt head rejecting him. Do you rip it off like a Band-Aid and just shoot it to him straight or do you pull the "I'm busy every day from now until forever" card? Being rejected sucks but it's just as miserable rejecting a good guy, especially when he thinks we had a great time! What to do what to do....

Oh man, no wonder there are entire television series, movies, and books based on the dating world! It's exhausting. First dates can either be the most exciting thing or a complete waste of time. I'm still an optimist though, hence why I keep going on these dates because eventually one of them is going to work out, right? I went to sleep last night and woke up this morning feeling defeated, thankfully, this a problem that can easily be solved with a little retail therapy and a Friday night at The Whale! I successfully used all but $4 of my Forever 21 gift cards that I got for Christmas and got a kick ass new jacket! Feeling better already. Happy Friday, dudes!

Thirsty Wednesday?: I'm in L.O.V.E. with Times Like These

Mmmkay. So, the witch with a b phase is over. Today, I'm in love.
My desk. At about 1pm today.
New black pumps (sittin' pretty on top of the book I was supposed to read last night, but didn't), Diet Coke (my fuel), smartwater (to make up for not reading last night), the usual Wisey's lunch (Jane Hoya's hang over cure), part of my pant leg (from the jeans I wore out last night), BlackBerry charging, jewelry from last night, gum, and of course, BYT on mahhhh screen.

Yes, I said I'm in love. I'm in love with Allie Hubschmann. She not only "forced" me (ya know, realllly had to twist my arm) to go out last night but she also gave me a great laugh this morning. Me: "My room is so absurd, it deserves a picture." Allie: "Christie, please, look at mine. It has shame spelled out on the floor." I died. Mainly because my first reaction was to look at the floor and then I understood what she meant. Legit lmfao.

I'm in love with Wednesday night. Last night, 8pm: very unfocused, very tired, very gross, very hopeless. By 9:30pm....showered and smellin' fresh, make-up on, dressed, heels, dancing and getting ready with Scrubby and Mags. 10:30pm: "The Boys" are over, beer pong games underway, and the standard attempt at making a decent tasting drink with limited supplies is successful. 12:30am: Slow jog it down to Third Edition with "Our Group" (a favorable ratio of 3 girls to about 8 foooozball guys) and "dance dance like it's the last last night of your life life". It was one of those "We're seniors, we don't care that Christie has a thesis proposal due Monday, we love that the dance floor is empty because we can dominate it, and you can't stop us" nights. In high school (and the first half of college) I never really had a big group of friends. I had my few besties (oMg LyLaS fOrEvEr) but the group we have here is UHHH-MAZING. Put it this way, I despise "Thirds", as it's commonly called, but last night was so much fun and I'd do it again tonight if I could.

I'm also in love with the fact that we've been talking about last night
all day and needed Paul's assistance for the play-by-play of the events.

I'm in love with the professor who will serve as my thesis counselor. In an email he sent out this morning, he informed all sociology majors that he will be in his office ALL DAY tomorrow. He nicknamed himself "Professor Helpful" and wrote, "If, at this junction, you feel TOTALLY CLUELESS AND TOPIC-LESS AND DESPERATE FOR HELP....please come see me, I WANT TO HELP, I REALLY DO." love. him. Anyone have any suggestions? I'm thinking something along the lines of gender discrimination yada yada in bars and restaurants yada yada? I don't know. Hence why I will be in his office tomorrow.

I'm in love with Svetlana Legetic. She effin' rocks and I have a serious girl crush on her and her life. She's got the wheels spinnin' in my head about the big F word (my future). Closely related, I'm in love with the following statement: "The BYT party is TOMORROW!!"

And finally, I'm in love with this song: Times Like These by Foo Fighters
"It's times like these" I can have fun with my friends, enjoy being a kid, and know that the massive amounts of school work and responsibilities that I neglected last night will somehow awwll be figured out.

One final look at my room, shall we?
(Click on the pictures to zoooom in)
Please notice a few things:
1) My suitcase from Thanksgiving break.
I just brought it upstairs last night...still not unpacked.
2) The lack of sheets on my bed. Clean sheets are crumbled
up in the corner up there. How long? 18 days. I just counted.
3) Dresses, jeans, and shoes. On the ladder, the floor, the chair, the desk.
4) My towel. Anyone who knows me, knows I NEVER leave it on the floor.
5) In fact, anyone who knows me, knows that my room NEVER (ok, rarely ever)
Looks.Like.This. ---> it will be cleaned up today (maybe tomorrow).

Thirsty Thursday: "The pumps are in the bag!" ~ Meg Fishburn

Bright idea: "Meghan, I got an email about a new bar/restaurant that opened up on H Street in NE, it's called The Atlas Room. It looks really nice, let's try it."

Mmkay. So, to save some dolla dolla bills we took public transportation, at least on the way out there. We missed the GUTS bus (Georgetown University Transportation Shuttle) to Rosslyn Metro Station by 2 minutes...waited 15 minutes for the next one. Got to Rosslyn and missed the orange line by 1 MINUTE...waited 20 minutes for the next one. Sat on the metro for a half hour, got out at Minnesota Ave and well Toto, we were certainly not in Kansas no mo'! We took the long way. The really long way. We got our "what the heck are you two doing in these parts" butts in a cab and dropped off at the corner of 11th and H. The street was empty, a snerious ghost town.

Me: "Who's idea was this?? GEEEEZ, FISH!"
Ha! God bless her for constantly putting up with me.

Finally, we find The Atlas Room. There's not a single person in there. Awesome. Meg: "We trekked all the way out here, we're getting a damn drink, let's go!" Now, you tell me if this isn't SO WEIRD...it's obvious that the two men sitting at the bar are the owners, Matt and Bobby, (great guys by the way) but UM HI WEIRD, the service manager = Mark! For those of you who don't know, I know Mark from Rhino and Serendipity in Georgetown. Just focus on the coincidence of all of this. I rarely leave NW, I never would have gone to this bar if it weren't for this blog, we almost didn't walk through the door, but thankfully it was a hassle getting there so we did anyway, and then to top it all off, I know the general manager! Word.

"Big Ice" aka Chris the bartender, made us two Mai Tais. Hands down the best Mai Tai I've ever had and Meghan's first (I think she fell in love). "Big Ice" has been bartending for years and makes a smooth drink. He believes bartending is a form of art, trust me you won't be disappointed. I didn't get a chance to try out the food but after talking with these guys, I'm on Mission: Promote The Atlas Room. Despite it being empty (mind you, because of our struggles, it was almost midnight by the time we got there) we were told there was a full house for dinner. All types of people, from 20 something girls to H Street locals. From what I could tell, it was the swankiest looking place on H Street and "I think you got a lot of potential Kit De Luca."

I see this place as a classy pre-game. Go here for a bottle of wine and some appetizers, top it off with a Mai Tai and then move on to other late night spots. Spots on H Street that I will be exploring and will obvs report back.

The next and final stop: McFadden's (Enough adventure for one night, back to comfort zone). It was a sloppy mess of GWU seniors and fist pumping cowboys? Who knows what that was about! Trey bartends in the corner somewhat tucked away from the madness. We chatted with him, had peanut butter & jelly shots, and called it a night.

It was a fun little night and really got me thinking. While talking to the guys at The Atlas Room they asked me if I'd be moving back home after graduation. I truly have no clue what I'm going to do in May but I can't help but appreciate the network I've developed in this city. For someone who wants to work in hospitality and own a bar, I've got connections here. A few weeks ago I went to McFadden's with Kelsie for the first time and as I'm saying hello to Trey I hear her say: "Is there a bar in this city that you don't know everyone?!" It's a pretty wonderful thing. At home in small town NJ, I know people at Sona and that's the extent of my network. In all of Washington, DC, I'm extending my network every week. So should I leave it? Should I move back home? I probably will for a little while but who knows. The point is that I don't know where life will take me but what I do know is that it treats me really well in DC.

What would a post be without a song?

Thirsty Thursday: "Clean Cup, Clean Cup. MOVE DOWN!"

So it wasn't my thirstiest of Thursdays.  My usual troops were either too busy, too tired, or too cold to go out so I flew solo. I made myself walk the 12 blocks or so to the M Street Wachovia ATM. I needed the exercise but I really just wanted to listen to my ipod instead of getting in a cab right away. Kings of Leon (Radioactive) kept me company (It's in the water / it's in the story / it's where ya came from). Anyway, my final destination was Madhatter on Connecticut Ave in Dupont.

I found a spot at the back corner of the bar and ordered the beer on special, $1 draft Bud Light (pretty good deal if you ask me).  I found myself ease-dropping on the guys standing next to me: "Dude, I'm gonna work on being a MAN tonight, like a real man, and I'm gonna find that girl we saw earlier and talk to her", the next one replied: "Yo dude, I've been working on being a REAL man for the 23 years that I've been on this planet...gotta keep on truckin'" I swear I tried to hold back my laughter but really? Like really? (I'm LOL-ing just thinking about it).  Turns out Dude #2's name is Sean. Naturally, I introduced myself as Kelly from NY.  Sean filled me in on the crowd - a majority of the people were GWU Law School students who competed in some intelligence debate something or other that day. You thinking what I was thinking? Jackpot ;-).

Next up was Aaron: "Like Aaron Carter?!" I asked.  He played dumb, like he didn't know who that was....liar.  This time around, I was Christie from New Jersey.  We talked about law school, football, our mutual aspiration of owning a bar, DC vs. other cities...cool guy.  He got me and his friends the other drink on special....$5 Jager Bombs (in honor of the Jersey Girl, obvs).  Then things got funny because Sean came back: "Hey Kelly!" HAHAHA oops. Aaron looked confused, I needed to evacuate the situation.  Thankfully, by this time Megs had showed up so when Aaron left to use the bathroom we bolted.

I liked his watch. He liked my boots.

The music was amazing.  A great mix of old and new.  Then I got a look at the DJ and I knew why I was loving it so much. IT WAS MIX MASTER ROD, Oscar's brother! Woot! If you live in DC, he also djs at Rhino and FrontPage....go see him, he's fantastic.

Despite my outfit being a little too downtown Manhattan for this law school crowd, I had a good time and will definitely go back.  $1 beers & Mix Master Rod...'nuff said. Another plus: there was room to breathe. Enough room to escape the Sean & Aaron Debacle, room to dance, and room to talk.  I don't like when people are all up in my grill...back off, kids.

The crowd was a little young for my liking (especially when I overheard the bouncer questioning some girl: "Oh what are you, 18? Let's see this I.D.") but the staff was pleasant and considering most places in GTown are the same way, this was a nice change.

The final "Blog Worthy" event, as Meghan put it, happened in the cab back to Georgetown.  Celine Dion's "My Heart Will Go On" came on the radio, no homo.  I sang my heart out.  At first I thought the driver kept making it louder to drown out my voice but then I realized he was singing louder than I was! I think we made his night....on second thought, he sure as shit made mine.
